 Every living creature has the right to live it’s life to the fullest.
We must become more aware of the importance of animals in our lives and how much we are dependent upon them. They fulfill many of our basic needs, such as companionship, food and clothing. They are involved in our work, our entertainment, and in medical and scientific research, where they have a significant role in keeping us healthy. Yet we still show them contempt in spite of their sacrifices for us.
We bite the hand that feeds us by mistreating and abusing the very animals we have come to depend upon, without a thought for how we treat these animals and whether we fulfill their needs in return. We ignore the oppression and sorrow that we bring to them.
All the misery we cause by intensive livestock farming, animal shows and circuses, puppy mills and pet shops, and through animal experimentation, should give us cause to rethink our eating habits, as well as our traditions, our lifestyle, our fashion and, above all, our thinking.
Every creature has the right to live the life it wants to live. But are they granted that right?
Future hope for animals lies in a human culture which has learned to extend its compassion beyond itself to other beings. For the sake of animals, we need to create this compassionate society by examining the consequences of our consumer decisions.
And then, when we look into the eyes of an animal and are aware that it's life has value because it is alive, it has feelings, it is capable of suffering and it strives for physical well-being, we will realize that these precious creatures are not very different from us.
